Our first integrated ESG Report:
A concrete commitment to the environment, people and the land
At the annual Shareholders’ Meeting to approve the 2023/2024 Annual Report last November, we presented our first Sustainability Report, a document that represents an important milestone on the path toward creating shared value for members, employees and local communities.
The report connects traditional financial statement information with environmental, social, and governance performance by charting a path of goals to be achieved and implemented in line with the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
Environmental sustainability: emission reduction and responsible use of resources
We have implemented numerous initiatives to protect the environment, achieving significant results:
– 19.45% reduction in CO₂ emissions compared to 2022, with a total of 1,850 tons of CO₂equivalent from Scope 1 and 2.
– Decrease of 17% in energy consumption and reduction of water withdrawal by 3.48%, thanks to the adoption of innovative technologies and optimization of production processes.
– Increased waste recovery to 28% over the previous year, promoting a more efficient circular economy.
The analysis also shows our commitment to obtaining certified quality and environmental management systems (ISO 9001 and ISO 14001), acquiring EQUALITAS certification for all production sites. Since 2018, Vitevis has been committed to reducing and offsetting its emissions by joining the “NoiCompensiAmo” project, with the aim of quantifying, monitoring and reporting greenhouse gas emissions by increasing their removal from the atmosphere.
Our cooperative, with a view to integrating transparency and legality into the company’s business to build trust and strengthen relations with stakeholders to the benefit of the company’s reputation, chose to adopt its own Code of Ethics, obtaining in October a legality rating from the Competition and Market Authority equal to “two stars +” (out of a range from 1 to 3).
The various activities introduced include adoption to the “Wine in Moderation” project, the wine industry’s leading social responsibility program, to protect product buyers in terms of conscious consumption.
Toward a sustainable future
“This first Sustainability Report represents a concrete and tangible commitment to the protection of the environment, the well-being of people and the economic growth of the territory,” the words of Silvano Nicolato, President of Vitevis. “An act not due, in advance of regulatory obligations, but strongly felt to tell in a precise and timely way how sustainability is a challenge and a concrete commitment. A journey in continuous progression that began ten years ago now with a first concrete step, the adoption of the agro-climatic environmental compliance protocol “Sistema di Qualità Nazionale di Produzione Integrata” SQNPI, a path capable of involving many people and responding to persistent climate changes, consumer demands and increasingly complex markets.”
Future goals
Vitevis Wineries is now setting even more ambitious goals for the coming years, including:
– Start a line of wines produced entirely from recycled and recyclable materials,
– Continuing activities to reduce the weight of glass in the bottles used,
– Increase training activities for employees,
– Continuing to support social activities particularly recolved to schools and associations in the area.
